Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Saeed Jalili met with Syrian President Bashar Assad in Damascus on Thursday. In the meeting attended by Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Muallem, the two sides discussed bilateral ties and important regional and international issues. Jalili is also planned to meet leaders of Palestinian resistance movements. Deputy of the Supreme National Security Council told ISNA that the visit is in line with Tehran-Damascus constant deliberations.
Jalili was also going to have a press conference but it was called off because of an explosion near a bus in a gas station which left 6 people dead. The explosion was not a terrorist attack as confirmed by the Syrian Interior Minister Saeed Mohammad Sammour and happened when a tire exploded as the driver and two gas station workers were pumping air into it.
Two Iranians were among the dead.
